Bahujan Samaj Party’s national president and former chief minister Mayawati, while congratulating all Indians living in the country and abroad on the 78th Independence Day, said that this day will be special for the country’s 140 crore Bahujans only when they will be free from poverty. They will be able to make their family’s life happy, which will also increase the country’s respect. This will happen only when the central and UP government thinks of “giving work to every hand”. He said that the advertisements and promotions with the slogan ‘Come, hoist the tricolor together, awaken the spirit of patriotism’ under the much-publicized ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign by the BJP and its UP government are an attempt to divert the attention of the public from burning issues. It would be better if the BJP does not make fun of people through such emotional slogans.
The government should provide as many employment opportunities as possible to the poor so that they can live their lives with self-respect and self-esteem instead of being dependent on the grace of a few grains. Also, it should stop destroying self-employed people by using bulldozers. The government never tires of claiming the development of the country’s economy, but if the poor continue to remain poor and their income is not increasing, then what else are such claims if not baseless.
The record falling value of Rupee against the dollar in the international market affects self-reliance, which also needs proper attention. Instead of diverting the attention of the people, the government should actually play the role of a welfare state.
